Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology requires students not only to be able to use technology but also to possess adequate digital literacy to support critical thinking skills. This study aims to examine the effect of digital literacy on the critical thinking skills of junior high school students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 80 junior high school students selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through digital literacy and critical thinking questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression after the data met the prerequisite tests.

The results indicate that digital literacy has a significant effect on students’ critical thinking skills, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.482 shows that digital literacy contributes 48.2% to students’ critical thinking skills, while the remaining 51.8% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings suggest that digital literacy plays an important role in fostering students’ ability to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information critically.

This study concludes that strengthening digital literacy should be systematically integrated into junior high school learning processes to enhance students’ critical thinking skills in response to the challenges of digital-era education
